10000~30000rpm/min
The speed range of a high-speed centrifuge is usually between 10000~30000rpm/min. Specifically, the speed of a high-speed centrifuge is generally greater than 15000rpm but less than 30000rpm/min, but there is also a definition that a high-speed centrifuge refers to a high speed greater than 8000rpm but less than 30000rpm/min. 1
The influence of speed on separation effect
The speed of a centrifuge is one of its important performance indicators, which determines the centrifugal force generated by the centrifuge during the separation process, and thus affects the separation effect. The higher the speed, the greater the centrifugal force generated, and it can usually separate different components in the sample more quickly and thoroughly. However, too high a speed may cause sample damage or unnecessary thermal effects, so the required speed range needs to be determined according to specific experimental requirements.
Speed range of different types of centrifuges
Low-speed centrifuge: The speed is usually below 8000rpm, mainly used to separate large particles or preliminarily remove suspended matter.
High-speed centrifuge: The speed is between 10,000 and 30,000 rpm/min, suitable for separating emulsions and fine suspensions, such as proteins, RNA, DNA and other polymer compounds.
Ultra-high-speed centrifuge: The speed exceeds 30,000 rpm, and can even reach 80,000 rpm. It is mainly used to separate ultra-fine particle suspensions and polymer colloidal suspensions.
